Building Queensland’s future fleet from the ground up.
The Ormeau rail facility is being delivered by DT Infrastructure in partnership with Downer as part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP).
The Queensland Government’s QTMP was established to meet the increasing demand for rail transport in South East Queensland over the next 10 years.
This project involves the design and construction of a maintenance and stabling facility on a 66-hectare site in the Gold Coast region, supporting the introduction of 65 new six-car passenger trains.
Designed to operate all year round, the facility will enhance fleet reliability, create local jobs, and support sustainable transport growth in South East Queensland.
Incorporating sustainability initiatives such as on-site solar power and energy-efficient design, the Ormeau rail facility will form a vital part of Queensland’s rail infrastructure ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Scope
DT Infrastructure in partnership with Downer are responsible for the design and construct of a new rail facility for the maintenance and stabling of 20 six-car trains.
The scope of works for this project includes:
- Designing and constructing a 21,000 m² maintenance building equipped with an underfloor wheel lathe and a multiple-unit cleaning facility.
- Building storage and spares warehouse, amenities areas and other facility equipment.
- Installing stabling trackwork with wash facilities, hi-rail access, inspection areas, crew amenities, and sand and water provisioning facilities.
- Delivering sitewide infrastructure works, including OHLE installation, signalling systems, CCTV and security monitoring, electrical distribution, internal road networks, and additional site amenities.

20
New Stabling Facility to hold 20 six-car trains and track maintenance machinery.

2032
Enhancing transport connectivity in preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

65
New Maintenance facility to support 65 new trains.

21,000m²
Designing and constructing a 21,000 m² maintenance building.
Social impact
- The design and construction of the facility is supporting construction and engineering employment across South East Queensland.
- Improving train services’ reliability, punctuality, and travel times for South East Queensland’s growing population.
- Enhancing transport connectivity in preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- DT Infrastructure has sourced two long-term unemployed trainees from local organisations.
- Incorporating renewable energy solutions to reduce the project’s carbon footprint and improve long-term maintenance efficiency across design and construction.
