A new shared user bridge has officially opened in Sydney, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing Warringah Freeway Upgrade project.

The Falcon Bridge, designed to enhance connectivity and safety for pedestrians and cyclists, opened on August 5, 2025. It spans 187 meters and is 4.8 meters wide, providing ample space for its expected 800 daily users.

The Falcon Bridge is a component of the larger Warringah Freeway Upgrade, a $1.18 billion project led by DT Infrastructure in partnership with CPB Contractors. This upgrade aims to extend the freeway from the northern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Willoughby Road in North Sydney, facilitating seamless travel from the Northern Beaches through the Western Harbour Tunnel into the WestConnex system.

The bridge connects Falcon Street in North Sydney to Merlin Street in Neutral Bay, offering continuous east-west passage across the Warringah Freeway, separate from vehicular traffic. This development is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure and promote active transport in Sydney.

Key features of the new bridge include privacy screens along the western edge for adjacent residents, integrated lighting and architectural screens and canopies featuring rain-inspired artwork depicting a traditional Aboriginal story of five eels, the stars, and constellations.

At a recent event marking the occasion, the Hon. Jenny Aitchison, NSW Minister for Roads, expressed enthusiasm about the bridge’s opening and said that it will be wider and safer for the hundreds of cyclists and pedestrians expected to use it each day thanks to the improved sight lines and wider deck.

“This is the latest milestone on the Warringah Freeway Upgrade on which we see real progress happening from week to week,” said the Minister. “The bridge helps to get Sydneysiders moving and active while giving them a safe passage across the freeway.”

“By creating safer, more accessible connections for walkers and cyclists, we’re helping people choose healthier, more sustainable ways to get around while easing congestion on our roads.”

The completion of the Falcon Bridge marks a pivotal achievement in the Warringah Freeway Upgrade, underscoring DT Infrastructure’s dedication to enhancing Sydney’s transport network and improving urban mobility.
